1. Different scope of receiving items
The scope of receiving items in air logistics mainly includes two categories: documents and parcels. Among them, documents mainly refer to commercial documents and various printed materials. For parcels, the gross weight is generally required to be no more than 32 kg (including 32 kg) or the outer packaging is no more than 102 cm on one side, and the sum of the three sides is no more than 175 cm. In recent years, with the more intense competition in the air transportation industry, express delivery companies have tended to relax the requirements for parcel size in order to attract more customers. The traditional air freight business is mainly based on trade goods, and the volume of each piece of goods shall not be less than 5*10*20 cm. The postal business is mainly based on private letters, and the weight of each parcel is required to be no more than 20 kg and the length is no more than 1 meter.
2. Different operators
Most of the operators operating international air logistics are multinational companies. These companies have expanded their business to all parts of the world in the form of sole proprietorship or joint ventures and established a global network. The transmission of air express is basically completed within multinational companies. The international postal business is achieved through the cooperation between postal agencies in most countries in the world in the form of the Universal Postal Union, and mail is delivered through the cooperation of postal authorities of more than two countries. International air cargo transportation mainly adopts the form of centralized consignment, or is directly entrusted by the consignor to an air freight agent. After the goods arrive at the destination, they are transferred to the consignee by the person related to the air freight agent at the place of shipment. In addition to involving airlines, the business also relies on the assistance of air freight agents.
3. Different business organization forms
The traditional operating theory of postal transportation is relay transmission. Most air logistics companies use the central distribution theory or the turntable distribution theory to organize a global network. Simply put, express companies set up distribution centers (Hubs) in central areas according to the actual situation of their own business. Express mail collected from various places is distributed according to the area to which it arrives and loaded onto the plane. That night, planes from various places fly to the distribution center, exchange express mail and fly back. The next morning, the express mail is delivered to the recipient's desk by car by local branches. This method seems unreasonable, but because the central distribution theory reduces the intermediate links, the flow of express mail is simple and clear, errors are reduced, operational efficiency is improved, and delivery time is shortened, it has been proven to be economical and effective.
