Analysis of Success Factors of Aviation Logistics

Air logistics is neither an air cargo enterprise in the traditional sense nor an extension of the traditional air cargo service that is simply understood by ordinary people. It is an emerging industry in the information age. Its operating model is not just a simple "plane + truck". It is based on information technology, centered on customer needs, combined with the supply chain management of production enterprises, and cooperates with manufacturers to design an integrated logistics solution characterized by "one-stop" and "door-to-door" services, providing customers with high-quality, efficient and personalized comprehensive logistics services that combine the supply, production, transportation, warehousing and sales of raw materials and products into an organic whole.

From the current development status of my country's air logistics industry, most companies are still in the stage of transportation contracts and distribution. However, the author believes that with the development of information technology, it is very likely that my country's aviation companies will go beyond logistics outsourcing and go directly to supply chain management groups. The key to success lies in grasping some key elements of success. If the air logistics business is subdivided into two categories: air cargo and air express, according to the views of Mr. Song Yang, a famous logistics management expert, the key elements of the success of the air logistics industry are as follows.

1. Key success factors of air cargo companies

① Ground transportation capabilities (express freight network in secondary cities, the scale of agents in other cities, and whether inter-city freight can be provided);

② Customer relations (whether a national freight forwarding network has been established, whether customers are managed in a hierarchical manner, and whether customer loyalty can be cultivated);

③ Ability to provide value-added services (supply chain management capabilities such as warehousing, packaging, and assembly);

④ Information technology (freight management capabilities, CRM system, knowledge management system);

⑤ Route coverage (increasing all-cargo aircraft, using existing belly compartments, and using routes of other domestic and foreign airlines).

2. Key success factors of air express companies

① Multi-mode transportation capabilities (providing full-service all-cargo aircraft and belly cargo, road transportation capabilities);

② Process efficiency (all-cargo aircraft routes, sorting centers, 24/7 operations);

③ Brand (brand promotion, unified service model, unified pricing strategy);

④ IT system (unified information system with standardization, reliability, compatibility and scalability);

⑤ Service quality (perfect performance evaluation and quality monitoring system, quality management certification);

⑥ Ground transportation network (establishing a same-city network, establishing delivery stations in several cities).

Whether these key success factors can be grasped is the key to whether domestic aviation companies can gain market competitive advantages.
